Haxan @ B2 Venue, Norwich 23rd July

On Friday 23rd July 2021 live music returned to the B2 Venue in Norwich after a long Covid-19 induced absence with headline band Haxan supported by Ashen Reach and White Raven Down.

Finally some live music and my first gig since the end of January 2020 plus the chance to do some pictures and boy was it most certainly worth the llllooooooonnnngggg wait!

First up on the night were White Raven Down and it was great to finally meet guitarist Stu Bailey in person and not through social media before they hit the stage.

The aural onslaught began and it brought a smile to the face and a shiver to the spine as they blasted their way through a set containing the likes of Salvation, Take Me and the brilliant Not Alone and also treated us to a new song set to be on the new upcoming album, and what a song it was too! It was a blistering start to the night which saw Stu disappearing into the crowd on a number of occasions, his fingers a blur as his guitar wailed. What a great bunch of guys and what an awesome display they put on, if you get the chance to see them live you won’t be disappointed.

Next up to were the equally incredible Ashen Reach with singer Kyle and the guys and of course Jess wielding the drumsticks delivering a monster of a set featuring the likes of Epiphany, the monsterous Tear It Down and Homecoming. Frontman Kyle delivers his vocals in such an energetic and powerful way it’s hard not to be impressed by Ashen Reach and the huge feel to each and every song. They too are out and about this year so miss them at your own regret.

Finally came Haxan and performing their first live gig in over a year kicked into a truly awesome set seeing the girls, Sam (vocals/guitar), Jess (drums) and Harriet (bass) unleash their lockdown energy buildup through their music. These girls might be tiny in size but they certainly deliver a mighty performance with songs like the epic Skeletons, Nine Lives, Killing Time and Crash And Burn. Anyone who thinks girls can’t do rock hasn’t seen these girls doing their thing live, I’ve listened to the songs on Spotify a fair bit during lockdown but they truly are better live. Epic.

To sum things up this was a great gig and every band playing tonight could quite easily have been the headlining band and the atmosphere and vibe was electric. I can’t wait to catch up with all these fantastic bands again soon at some point and it was truly a pleasure to be there, meet them, chat to them and to celebrate what was for many a return to live music.

White Raven Down gave us Salvation, Ashen Reach gave us the Epiphany and Haxan did most definately Bring The Thunder.

10/10 – I’ll remember this gig for a long time to come. Thank you B2 and thank you White Raven Down, Ashen Reach and of course Haxan, the girls HAVE been Released.
