Electric Black – EP Review – Beggers, Thieves and Everything Inbetween

Electric Black have a new EP due out on 27th November and I’ve had the chance to have a listen to it so it would be rude not to do a little review of it.

The album opens with the first released single from the EP Calendar Queen an almost classic rock sounding number with a modern Electric Black twist as always sung energetically by Ali.

Closer to Death, a song penned about the time Ali was in hospital with pneumonia is a blistering number with the opening line ‘So sick and tired, of feeling sick and tired’ paving the way to a monster of a chorus and hopefulyy an insight into what we can expect from the new album next year.

A beautiful cover of Hozier ‘Take Me To Church’ takes a slot on the EP and this version is one of the best covers I’ve heard and works amazingly with the heavier style of the chorus.

Down To Ride is an amazingly beautiful new song performed acoustic, and performed superbly with some stunning vocals from Ali.

Another live track, though not acoustic, Build It And They Will Come from The Calm Before album appears next in a well warranted place with it’s somewhat funky sounding bluesy music feel adding to melting pot of this awesome little EP.

The album closes with what is probably one of my favourite tracks from their The Calm Before album and that is Eagle. This version is a live version and much like the album version is sung beautifully accompanied by soaring guitars and drums.

Overall this is a pretty awesome little EP with some fantastic new songs, the sublime cover of Take Me To Church and a couple of bonus live versions of two tracks from The Calm Before.

Definately something for old fans, new fans and anyone who wants to have a listen to what Electric Black are all about.

An acousticly tinged 9/10 for this beauty.

ELECTRIC BLACK

Electric Black are four hard rockers from Hertfordshire looking to making a notable impression on the UK rock scene with their debut full length album “The Calm Before” – released November 2019. The album received widespread applause and critical acclaim; Powerplay magazine gave it 9/10 “A serious collection of solid rock tunes.” and Classic Rock magazine rated it 7/10 saying “A Determined and Dynamic Debut”. Drawing influence from the likes of Bad Company, Jet, Rival Sons & Black Stone Cherry, Electric Black combine bold rock riffs, mean guitar licks and clean vocal tones with sweet harmonies to create a hybrid modern/classic rock sound to please a range of audiences.

The band’s line up comprises; ex-White Line Diaries members and long-time song writing partners Ali Shiach (Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar) and Jonny Bryant (Lead Guitar), and ex-Tequila Mockingbird rhythm partners Ryan Trotman (Bass) and Matt Butler (Drums).
